First when you see water or water damage in your home it can be stressful, take a deep breath.  Your primary focus should be the safety of yourself and loved ones.

  • Is the the property safe?

  • Look for electrical and slip hazards that can lead to serious injury or death

  • Only take on tasks you are safe to perform

  • Wet building material can be very heavy or collapse on you

  • Remove as much excess water as you can

  • Wipe water from furniture and take precaution with electrical items

  • Remove or prop wet cushions

  • Place aluminum foil or blocks between furniture legs and floor

  • In the summer turn on air conditioning to help reduce humidity

  • Remove wet rugs

  • Remove items that may bleed color onto your floor or carpet

  • Move wood objects and art to a safe, dry place as the moisture in home may cause secondary damage
